Gordon Bauwens undertakes commissions for both private and commercial
clients. He regularly produces artist's impressions of ships before
they are built for shipbuilders and shipping lines, his technical
background enabling him to work from naval architects' plans. This
artwork is reproduced for tendering documents, company brochures,
presentations and press releases - on more than one occasion his illustrations
have appeared in TV news items dealing with shipbuilding related announcements. Original paintings are often
presented as gifts to shipowners at launches or naming ceremonies.
Maritime authors commission artwork for book covers or as illustrations
within their publications. Original paintings of private sail or motor
yachts are ideal for that special birthday, anniversary or retirement gift.
In 2000, Gordon Bauwens produced the official
Queen Mary 2 artist's impression for Cunard Line.
His illustration was released to the world media and used as a
giant back-drop at the contract-signing ceremony in St Nazaire, France, November 2000.
This led in 2003 to four large oil painting commissions of famous Cunard liners to hang in
public areas aboard QM2, including the Grand Lobby. In 2007 Gordon received
further work for the latest Cunarder, Queen Victoria, with the majority of his
12 maritime pieces hanging in the central stairway of this impressive new liner.
Commissioned maritime subjects to date include, passenger and cargo liners, ferries, tankers, Antarctic
and oil exploration vessels, nuclear submarine, rocket launch-control ship, Royal Navy and Royal
Fleet Auxiliary vessels, fishing trawlers and private yachts.
Written, telephoned or emailed enquiries regarding commission work are
welcomed. The artist is always happy to discuss original paintings for
corporate and private clients. Prices will vary according to the size
and complexity of the subjects. You may see samples of commissioned
works by visiting our
Commissions Gallery.
The artist paints in Designers Gouache, an opaque water-based medium,
or in oils. These mediums best suit his distinctive style, characterised
by ultra-high detail.
